Cub Scouts’ Winter Wonderland: Snowcapades Adventure!

The crisp air and the blanket of snow set the stage for an unforgettable winter outing. Our Cub Scouts embarked on a day filled with laughter, excitement, and the spirit of adventure.

Frosty Stations: Snowball Targets and Icy Obstacles

Each station was a new challenge to conquer. From aiming snowballs at targets to balancing a large group on a single board, the Scouts demonstrated teamwork and determination.

The Art of Donut Making

Amidst the snowflakes and ice, a sweet aroma wafted through the air as Scouts learned the art of donut making. This delicious activity was not only a treat for the taste buds but also a warm respite from the winter chill.

The Webelos’ Moment: Turtle Patrol Sled Race

The highlight of the day was witnessing our older “Webelo” Scouts, as part of their “Turtle Patrol,” race a sled they crafted themselves. Their ingenuity and racing spirit were on full display as they competed against other Scout packs.

Visit to the National Interagency Fire Center and Weather Service

To kick-off December, our Cub Scout pack had an amazing opportunity to visit two exciting places in Boise: the National Interagency Fire Center and the National Weather Service Boise headquarters. We learned a lot about how these organizations work to protect people and the environment from natural disasters.

Meeting the Smokejumpers

Our first stop was the National Interagency Fire Center (NIFC), which is the nation’s support center for wildland firefighting. We got to see the different types of equipment they use to fight fires across the country. But the most thrilling part was meeting the smokejumpers, who are specially trained firefighters who parachute into remote areas to battle the flames.

The smokejumpers showed us their gear and explained how they prepare for each mission. They told us some incredible stories about their experiences fighting forest fires and the challenges they face. They also taught us some important tips on how to prevent wildfires and stay safe in case of an emergency. We were very impressed by their courage and dedication.

Seeing a Weather Balloon

Our next destination was the National Weather Service Boise headquarters, where we learned how they forecast the weather for our area. We got to see the instruments and computers they use to monitor the atmospheric conditions and make predictions. They also showed us how they communicate with the public and other agencies through radio, TV, and social media.

We also got to touch a real weather balloon. A weather balloon is a type of high-altitude balloon that carries instruments to the stratosphere to send back information on pressure, temperature, humidity, and wind speed. The weather station launches two balloons every day, one in the morning and one in the evening.

Having Fun and Learning

We had a blast on our trip and learned a lot about fire and weather. We want to thank the staff at NIFC and NWS for their hospitality and generosity. They made us feel welcome and inspired us to learn more about science and nature. We can’t wait for our next outing!

Tour of the Capitol Building with Senator Wintrow

In late November, our Cub Scout pack visited the Idaho Capitol Building in Boise and took a tour with Senator Wintrow. The architecture of the building and history fascinated both the scouts and parents. During the visit, the scouts learned about the government and its branches, and had the opportunity to ask questions and get answers about the state and its government. They were thrilled to have the chance to meet Senator Wintrow and learn from her firsthand about the workings of the government. The scouts were even able to sit in the real Senators’ seats, which was a highlight of the tour. Overall, it was an unforgettable experience.

Celebrating our Country and Veterans

November was a special month for the Pack 100 Cub Scouts as it was a time to celebrate and honor our veterans. This year, our pack had the opportunity to participate in several events that helped us learn more about the sacrifices made by our veterans.

We were visited by our Charter Organization representatives from the VFW Post 4000 who shared their experiences serving our country. The cubs were excited to meet them and came with lots of questions to ask. It was a fun pack meeting as we learned more about their service.

Later in the month, the cubs attended the Boise Veteran’s Day parade in their uniforms. It was a great opportunity for us to show our support and gratitude to our veterans. The parade was a wonderful celebration of the service and sacrifice of our veterans.

In addition to the parade, we also had a flag retirement ceremony back in October at our camp-fire meet-up. This was another opportunity for us to learn about the importance of the American flag and the values it represents.

Fall ’23 Campout at Silver Creek

Our Scouts and their families had an awesome time at our fall camp-out held at Silver Creek Campground! The occasional rain only added to the adventure as we completed Scout challenges and enjoyed each other’s company. And the campfire skits were unforgettable – there was plenty of Wolf howling to be heard! But it wasn’t just about having fun – our Scouts also got to develop their camping skills and learn important lessons about teamwork and leadership. And let’s not forget about the refreshing dip we took in the nearby Silver Creek plunge – a naturally heated hot springs pool that was the perfect way to end our weekend. If you’re looking for an unforgettable experience for your child, look no further than our Pack’s next adventure!

Day Camp June 2023

We had a blast at the Day Camp organized by the Mountain West Council, enjoying a full day of exciting activities. Our pack got to try out 9 different stations, such as potato races, kickball, tug of war, BB-gun shooting, leather working, robotics, and more. To top it off, the fire department made a special appearance with their truck to cool us down after a hot day, spraying us all. Thanks to all the volunteers who helped plan and execute this great event.

Trip to Bruneau Dunes

At the end of April ’23, the Cub Scouts went on a family camp to Bruneau Dunes. Much fun was had camping, hiking, seeing the stars, participating in a ‘Bear Carnival’, and enjoying time with our Pack.
